Amazon Dec 2008 454

The children’s ministry in the Amazon jungle continues to grow. We now have nine children feeding stations in the three countries; Colombia, Brazil and Peru, with a total of 1,200 + receiving at least one hot meal each day. Over 25,000 meals served each month. Hallelujah! Both in Colombia and Brazil the children are excelling at their respective schools. The Mayor in Leticia awarded Lucy, director of Aljaba, with public recognition for her work with the children.

For the local families living in extreme poverty it has been a wonderful relief to have their children participating in the feeding program. They have excelled so fast at school and now have energy to play soccer and other sports. Something many of those children have not enjoyed before due to severe malnutrition and plain physical weakness.

For Lucy at the Aljaba in Colombia and for Clauber at Cuaugu Escola in Brazil, the request from many parents was to allow their other children at home to receive the daily food. How could we say NO seeing the other children with serious signs of malnutrition and suffering diseases? Should those children go hungry only because they were not in school yet? God forbid! In spite of the cost increase on the program we are now feeding over 1,200 children daily, age 1-17, in nine feeding stations, whether they attend school or not. Praise God!

The Bible school students from Christ for the Nations in Dallas participated in serving food to the children, celebrating a birthday party for everyone to enjoy a piece of cake and refreshments and playing games. Doing children’s stuff! Allowing children to be children.

During our last trip to the Amazon we had the opportunity of installing three Water Purification Systems. One at Clauber’s Cuaugu Escola. With pure water to drink and good nutritious food to eat, these children now have a good chance in life.

The pure water is a guaranty for them not to have those belly aches and intestinal infections they suffered so frequently in the past. Now they can take home a recipient of pure water to share with their family.

At Barrio Nuevo Colombia, the people live in a jungle swamp having to use that smelly, contaminated water to wash their clothes and to take baths as well as collecting their drinking water. Now they are drinking pure water. The CFNI students worked long sweaty hours until the project was finished. To see the greenish thick water turn into crystal clear liquid was like witnessing a miracle taking place!

A number of the children at Aljaba have advanced so much at school they have been given the opportunity to join a Music Academy in Leticia and already have participated playing at several musicals and public concerts. Their only limitation is not having enough instruments to practice. Could it be that you may know of an instrument long forgotten inside a closet? Would you like to donate it to the Amazon Little People? Please mail it to our address in Texas. We would be glad to take it for you, to Leticia on our next trip. Thank You! Would you like to sponsor one of these children with their music academy’s needs? $25 a month will make sure these children can continue their music education. I’m sure the future worship leaders of those native churches are in training right now!

We are preaching the gospel of God’s love, not just in words but with compassion, helping them on their most critical needs, alleviating their pain and suffering. This is what is happening in the Amazon jungle thanks to your faithful financial support. Thank you for being our ministry partners, empowering us to fulfill the Lord’s Commission.

Until they ALL hear,

The Amazon Xpeditions Team
